For thirty years and beyond, Medina Creative Housing has been developing nationally recognized housing opportunities in Northeast Ohio for individuals with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities. Our creative homes enable people with disabilities to live independently in affordable, accessible and safe neighborhoods while receiving the necessary levels of support needed for their health and safety. We currently have 80 homes in the community, with 25 more being built.

Creative Living for Life at Ursuline Sisters, Pepper Pike

29777 Fairmount Boulevard, Pepper Pike, Ohio 44124: Twenty-four home to be completed.

Creative Living for Life at Ursuline Sisters is an innovative and inclusive housing project aimed at providing a nurturing and empowering environment for individuals with diverse abilities. Through this endeavor, our organization strives to continue its mission of promoting independent living, community integration, and lifelong learning for all.

Medina Creative Housing is duplicating its Creative Living for Life community model creating a safe and stimulating environment on the Ursuline Sisters’ campus. Each resident will have their own townhouse, with individual supports, including ample green and community space. Families are privately funding their loved ones’ forever home. However, we are fundraising for the community center which will make up the social fabric of the community.

This development has been eleven years in the making and is finally coming to fruition. Medina Creative Housing has partnered with the Ursuline Sisters who are embracing this development as part of their mission. The Creative Living for Life model encompasses a self-sustaining, safety-net setting with a host of opportunities for growth and development. A true ‘lifestyle’ for individuals with disabilities and peace of mind for their families.

At Creative Living for Life at Ursuline Sisters, we are embarking on an exciting journey to build the heart of our community - the Community Center. This space will serve as the vibrant hub where friendships are forged, skills are honed, and dreams are realized. It will be the pulse of our community, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness for all.

Why the Community Center Matters:

  • Fostering Inclusion: The community center will provide a welcoming space where individuals of all abilities can come together, socialize, and participate in enriching activities.
  • Empowering Growth: From educational workshops to recreational programs, the center will offer a wide range of opportunities for personal development and growth.
  • Creating Connections: By bringing people together, the community center will help combat isolation and loneliness, promoting a sense of community and support.

Creative Housing

Creative Housing currently offers three types of housing opportunities:

  • Creative Living Transitions - A home located in Brunswick, Ohio with eight efficiency units, which offers an independent living experience and is part of our Creative Living Transitions program. Individuals living in this home setting work on skills and goals in order to achieve independent living in a single family setting.

  • Single Family Homes - Fourteen single family homes in Medina County that offer independent living with supports, owned and subsidize by Medina Creative Housing.

  • Middleburg Heights, Creative Living, 13119-13129 Smith Rd, Middleburg Heights, Ohio 44130 - Sixteen one-bedroom, garden-style apartments located in a community setting in Middleburg Heights. These homes are subsidized by, and have an application and waiting list managed by, Cuyahoga County Metropolitan Housing.

Creative Living

We currently have thirty-four HUD subsidized one and two bedroom garden-style apartment units in four community locations. These separate community locations each have a community room and recreation center. They are located close to shopping, services, supports, recreation and have nightly activity programs for the residents called our Resident Enrichment Program (REP). Our garden-style apartments also feature a host of conveniences that make everyday life rewarding for people with disabilities, such as low counters, no thresholds, washer and dryers and accessible bathrooms. Our homes and apartments have such a low turnover rate that we currently have a 3.5 - 4 year waiting list.

The affordable connectivity program can help SSI recipients pay less for internet access.

The FCC recently launched a new program to reduce the cost of getting online. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides a discount of up to:

  • $30 per month toward internet service for eligible households.
  • $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands.

Eligible households can also receive a one-time discount for up to $100 toward purchasing a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers.

Any household with an individual who receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is eligible to receive discounted internet service through the ACP. Social Security doesn't count ACP assistance as income or a resource for SSI purposes. Receipt of this assistance will not affect a person's SSI payment.

You are likely eligible if your household income is below 200% of the Federal Poverty Line, or if you or someone you live with currently receives a government benefit like SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, Pell Grant, or Free and Reduced-Price Lunch.

More information on how to apply can be found at https://www.affordableconnectivity.gov/how-to-apply/ or by calling (877) 384-2575.
