On February 12, crowds of well-wishers, many with their pets, filled the newly opened
Medina Creative Pet Play/Doggie Day Care and Spa at 4080 Creative Living Way in Medina (near GFS and Home Depot), celebrating the addition of one more program to an already impressive array of programs designed to enhance the lives of people with disabilities while providing useful service to the community.
In her opening comments, DePasquale-Hagerty said this latest addition is a unique supportive program that offers ‘Five Paw Service’ for pets, fulfilling a fast growing trend of pet owners wanting the best for their pets. At the same time, it is providing disabled individuals with the opportunity to grow in self-confidence and independence, use their time productively, be gainfully employed and give back to their community. It is opening one more door that is typically shut to people of disability, and giving them the opportunity to be all they can be.
Dr. Michael Carlson, MCH Board President, credited DePasquale-Hagerty for her vision, her belief, and her tireless efforts in making these dreams become realities. He said, “Medina County is where people with disabilities can grow, and we’re not done yet.” Pat Geissman, speaking on behalf of the Medina County Commissioners said, “These accomplishments cannot be found anywhere else in Ohio.”
DePasquale-Hagerty extended special thanks to AkzoNobel employees and volunteers, Bil-Jac, Brunswick Home Depot, Caleb and Scott Ernshaw, C. Martin Trucking, Tom Bednar, Tom Borror, Gary Calhoun, GreensKeepers, JS Construction, Lakeside Laundry, Leadership Medina County Class of 2013, MCA Property Maintenance/Construction vocational training program, Medina Breakfast Kiwanis, Medina Excavating, Medina Kennel Club, Medina Signs and RPM. These individuals and companies were generous with their donations and efforts.
Others who were thanked for their dedication included the MCH Board of Trustees: Carl DeForest, Mark Dorman, Craig Hassinger, Jack Holland, Maggie Howell, Tom Miller, Janie Parish, Diana Riley, Ron Stollar, Bob Stopar, David White, Jack Kirby-Wilkins, George Wiswesser, and Trustees Emeritus Ann Reusch and Ron Zambetti. Among the special guests were Bob Arnold, Becky Shotwell, Mike Kovack, Commissioner Steve Hambley, Chief Dave Arbogast, and Dennis Neate.
