MEDINA, Ohio – On a recent tour of the Medina Creative Housing apartments on West Reagan Parkway and North Huntington Street, a visitor asked a guide the dreaded question: What is your disability?
Dianne DePasquale-Hagerty, CEO of the non-profit agency that supplies housing and other supports for people who have developmental and physical disabilities, cringed inwardly.
But the tour guide thought for a moment, then said, “I used to have one, but I don’t think I do anymore.”
“He said, ‘I live independently, and I work,'” DePasquale-Hagerty said.
“Our people don’t feel different. That’s special. That’s music to your ears if you work in this field,” she said.
Medina Creative Housing will celebrate that specialness at a 25th birthday party from 6 to 8 p.m. June 15 at Heartland Community Church, 3400 Weymouth Road.
